She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Minnesota State University Moorhead and her PhD in clinical psychology at Central Michigan University. She has published academic papers and presented at international conferences on problematic media use in youth and how parents can manage their children’s screen time.
Prior to joining Square One, Dr. Borgen gained experience as a doctoral intern in pediatric and clinical child psychology at Norton Children’s Hospital, providing mental health services for youth in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Borgen also served as a postdoctoral research fellow at NYU Langone’s Child Study Center, investigating the use of digital phenotyping to further understand symptoms of bipolar disorder and suicidality in adolescence.
With evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy and parent skills training, Dr. Borgen strives to provide children, adolescents, and their caregivers with the necessary skills for building bright futures. Dr. Borgen also aims to support families in strengthening their communication and relationships, so that they can work as teams to address mental health symptoms.
