David Causey, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist offers over 20 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and director in clinical psychology. His clinical expertise focuses on the assessment and treatment of social developmental delays, obsessive-compulsive conditions, Tourette syndrome, depression, anxiety, behavior disorders, and learning differences. His treatment approaches include cognitive-behavioral therapy, parenting training, family therapy, school consultation, and group therapy.
Dr. Causey completed his Clinical Psychology Internship at Duke University Medical Center and earned his doctorate degree from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1993. He then became a faculty member at the University of Louisville, School Of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, conducting his clinical services with Bingham Child Guidance Center. While at the university, Dr. Causey was the director of a nationally-accredited child/pediatric internship program. In addition, he directed a psychiatric day treatment for youth, provided teaching and supervision to numerous psychology and psychiatry interns, and conducted extensive therapy and assessment.
Dr. Causey has published book chapters and journal research articles regarding stress and coping in children. This included the development and publishing of a Children’s Coping Questionnaire that has been used by researchers and clinicians virtually all over the world. Throughout his career and now, Dr. Causey has provided numerous professional and community-based presentations on topics about child/adolescent coping, development, and adjustment issues. He is an active member of the Kentucky Psychological Association.
As chief staff psychologist at Square One, Dr. Causey performs psychological and educational evaluations, conducts individual and family therapy services, leads social skills groups, and guides families for educational placement. Consistent with his desire to provide cutting-edge, evidence-based treatment options for families, Dr. Causey became Kentucky’s first Cogmed Qualified Practitioner in 2011.
